Continuing the Devon theme, the work of James Ravilious demands attention. Over the course of seventeen years he created a broad and captivating body of work for the Beaford Photographic Archive, documenting rural life in North Devon during the 1970’s and 80’s. More than a collection of photos the archive is a social history of one locale, capturing a world fading from view.

What strikes me is what can be achieved with time, patience, care and skill. No agenda set just capturing life as it is as it happens.

Here, a documentary by Anson Hartford on the work of James Ravilious, originally broadcast on BBC4 in November 2007.
